Summer is supposed to be the slow season

Finland empties out in July. Everyone is at a cabin. I was at my desk with the tokens cranked up, and the biggest Vocabbie update so far went live this week.

What changed

A full brand refresh. The old look was a placeholder that lasted nine months. The new one is clean, a little playful, and built for something you open every day. Icon, colours, type, every screen.

More ways to practice. Flashcards alone do not make vocabulary stick, so there are now several modes that hit the same words from different angles. Listen and learn, speak, translate, and a new “think in the language” game that came straight from a user request.

Hand-made Finnish content. Vocabbie works with any language, but I live in Finland and I am learning Finnish myself, so I wrote and reviewed a proper curriculum for it. Real sentences, the ones people actually say, and every lesson gets graded for correctness before it ships.

Built in public, grown by nobody

Growth so far is entirely organic. No ads, no launch, no influencer sending. It is steady rather than fast, and honestly watching strangers use something I made to learn a language is the best part of the whole project. Someone in the app has studied on 59 separate days. I did not do anything to cause that except make the thing work.

The part nobody sees

The update is also a big code change. New brand meant touching every screen, which meant the release gate earned its keep: golden test cases for the speech grading, a Maestro run through the main flows, an error telemetry check after the build. Nothing shipped until all of it was green. It is the reason I could push this much in one go without a rollback.

If you have been waiting for the right time to start a language, this is a decent one. Vocabbie is on the App Store and Google Play.
